Reflection from Alumni Class

Having the opportunity to hear career stories from alums is exciting and meaningful, which provide the channel to link the experienced graduates to the undergraduates. In the process of communication, the three alums not only captured why and how they began to build their careers, but also were willing to answer the questions from students. They shared their experience to help us be better prepared to be engaged in the business world.

Jennifer Martin,a mother of several children and starting her own business in mid-life stage, showed how to develop own business when facing the conflict between the high risk from setting up it and responsibility for a family. Her solution is to try to find ways to minimize the risk without sacrificing the others. She also innovated the approaches of production with her skills.

Paul Gill, the founder of Naked Coconuts, shared how to attract customers and increase the customers’ loyalty also how the company operates in general. What impressed me most is the high value of honesty. If companies aim to sustainable development, they ought to obtain trustees from the customers. And being honest to customers is rewarding to that.

Paul Davidescu, the CEO of Tangoo a social, mobile app company, represented what the Tangoo can do for users and the reason for developing this kind of app. From what he said, one of the reasons for that is that when he was an university student in city Vancouver, it is not easy to find place for fun occasionally. Therefore he came out of the idea designing an app for those who are seeking place for fun.I learn that we can find business opportunities from our daily life, and the business skills learned in class can help us to promote it.
