BAEN Module Offering Date Changes

Dear Students (esp. those in the Innovation & Entrepreneurship Career Track),

Please note the schedule change for two BAEN modules:

  • BAEN 580A offering is being moved from P6 to P7
  • BAEN 580C offering is being moved from P4 to P6

Registration for P6 and P7 will be opened sometime in late spring to early summer.  Please make note of the schedule changes when making your own schedule. These changes have also been updated in the student website.

Clarification on Transcripts for Employment Purposes

Posted on behalf of Ian Christie, Director of Graduate Career Services

As a follow-up to the earlier blog post regarding transcripts, I wanted to clarify the points and instructions. Most internship postings do not ask for transcripts. However, it is worth being prepared.

Please follow these guidelines

 1. Official Transcripts: If an employer asks for an official transcript, your only source for that is Brock Hall (Please visit the following website for further instructions on how to obtain your current transcripts: http://www.students.ubc.ca/coursesreg/transcripts/.)

2. Unofficial Transcripts: When an employer asks for a transcript but doesn’t specify “official”, please use one of the following options:

 A) Best Practice: The gold standard is the official transcript and for < $10, it is a good investment. See link above.

 B) Alternative: The next best source for an unofficial record of your academic work at Sauder is the “Academic History” document. We have arranged with the graduate programs office to make these available to you at no charge.  If you need an Academic History document, we would be happy to send you a PDF copy that you can then add to your document tab on COOL for those postings that request it.

Please adhere to the following instructions:

  • Notify Carly by email only (carly.boettcher@sauder.ubc.ca) with a minimum of 24 hours notice
  • You will receive an email from Carly with your document attached
  • Please do not come to the front desk asking to have your document immediately. Follow the above procedure.

Thank you for your cooperation,

Ian Christie, MBA                                                                                                                Director, Graduate Career Services

MBA Alumni Mixer – Jan 16

RSVP for 2nd Annual MBA Alumni Mixer

This is an important reminder to RSVP for next week’s networking event. We have organized a fun and valuable event just for you at Earl’s Yaletown. We will begin the evening at 5:15 with a short presentation from one of our alumni on the ins and outs of working with recruiting agencies / search firms, followed by the networking reception with alumni.

At present, the RSVPs on the alumni side look strong. This is a business casual event (bring your name tag), a chance to mix, mingle and get to know your predecessors and a chance to practice your mixing/mingling skills with a very friendly audience.

Please see the RSVP Deadline. You must register to attend this event.

RSVP deadline: Sunday, January 12th, 2014

Optional Grammar Workshops in Period 3

Grammar is an essential part of writing, as it helps to convey the message or idea you are trying to get across. That being said, most writers might agree that their grammar skills could use a little freshening up from time to time. If you are a student looking to improve your grammar, be sure to sign up for a workshop in Period 3 (workshops are optional and free for all MBA students).

Writing Improvement Program 2014:

Wednesdays 1:00-4:00pm
Thursdays 1:00-4:00pm

FT MBA Program First Week Back

Welcome back everyone!

Period 3 starts today, Monday, Jan 6th! Please double check your schedules and make sure that you are registered in the right modules for your selected Track. Track requirements are on the website:  http://www.sauder.ubc.ca/Programs/MBA/MBA_Full_Time/Current_Students

If you are still undecided between two tracks, you should be attending the classes for both tracks over the next few days until your final decision. Please note, you will need to make your decision this week.

If you are still unsure about which track you will be taking, please make an advising appointment with me (email charles.lee@sauder.ubc.ca). As this will be my second week on the job, Teresa Pan will be advising with me.

One more important reminder, all FT MBA students must take Global Issues & Macroeconomics BA 561 in Period 3. If you are not yet registered in this module, please do so asap. The 8:00am section still has seats available.
