SCMP Info Session : Jan 23

Interested in working with extremely smart people within the professional services industry, advising VP’s & CEOs? Interested in a career in Strategic Management Consulting working for firms like McKinsey, Monitor, BCG, Deloitte, Bain, Accenture etc….? Your best opportunity to get into the wonderful world of consulting exists only at UBC through the Sauder Strategic Consulting Mentor Program (SCMP).

The SCMP is totally unique to Sauder and it is a solid opportunity for anyone interested in consulting or working in strategic management functions. It requires a great deal of effort on the part of each participant, but the rewards are definitely worth it: the successful graduates of this program are given an opportunity to interview with at least 6 top consultancies in the world (McKinsey, BCG, Bain etc.). That is more than any of the other top-tier MBA schools can offer.

Join us on Thursday, January 23 at 12:45 – 1:45 pm in HA 492  to learn more about the program, the selection criteria and about practical business tools that you acquire if you are chosen to this program.

Notice: BA 504 Course Fee and Rankings

There are about 15 students who have not yet paid their BA 504 course fee.

This is in fact hindering your classmates from receiving their rankings because P2 rankings cannot be calculated until all the grades are into the SSC. In turn this is preventing your classmates of having the opportunity to obtain a better internship.

Please pay your BA 504 Course fee by the end Tuesday, January 14th. To pay your BA 504 course fee, please visit the following link: http://www.sauder.ubc.ca/Resources/The_Store/Class_and_Lab_Fees

Clarification on Transcripts for Employment Purposes

Posted on behalf of Ian Christie, Director of Graduate Career Services

As a follow-up to the earlier blog post regarding transcripts, I wanted to clarify the points and instructions. Most internship postings do not ask for transcripts. However, it is worth being prepared.

Please follow these guidelines

 1. Official Transcripts: If an employer asks for an official transcript, your only source for that is Brock Hall (Please visit the following website for further instructions on how to obtain your current transcripts: http://www.students.ubc.ca/coursesreg/transcripts/.)

2. Unofficial Transcripts: When an employer asks for a transcript but doesn’t specify “official”, please use one of the following options:

 A) Best Practice: The gold standard is the official transcript and for < $10, it is a good investment. See link above.

 B) Alternative: The next best source for an unofficial record of your academic work at Sauder is the “Academic History” document. We have arranged with the graduate programs office to make these available to you at no charge.  If you need an Academic History document, we would be happy to send you a PDF copy that you can then add to your document tab on COOL for those postings that request it.

Please adhere to the following instructions:

  • Notify Carly by email only (carly.boettcher@sauder.ubc.ca) with a minimum of 24 hours notice
  • You will receive an email from Carly with your document attached
  • Please do not come to the front desk asking to have your document immediately. Follow the above procedure.

Thank you for your cooperation,

Ian Christie, MBA                                                                                                                Director, Graduate Career Services

MBA Alumni Mixer – Jan 16

RSVP for 2nd Annual MBA Alumni Mixer

This is an important reminder to RSVP for next week’s networking event. We have organized a fun and valuable event just for you at Earl’s Yaletown. We will begin the evening at 5:15 with a short presentation from one of our alumni on the ins and outs of working with recruiting agencies / search firms, followed by the networking reception with alumni.

At present, the RSVPs on the alumni side look strong. This is a business casual event (bring your name tag), a chance to mix, mingle and get to know your predecessors and a chance to practice your mixing/mingling skills with a very friendly audience.

Please see the RSVP Deadline. You must register to attend this event.

RSVP deadline: Sunday, January 12th, 2014
