I returned to UBC to teach in 2005, after 6 years at Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto.

Muppeteer

Favourite Movies: Brazil; The Sound of Music. Books: Anything with a plucky heroine – Anne of Green Gables, A Wrinkle in Time, Pride and Prejudice
What is your favourite judicial decision and why?
Probably Janzen v. Platy Enterprises, a 1989 Supreme Court decision that recognized that sexual harassment in employment is a form of sex discrimination, and not just an inter-personal matter. The case recognizes that targeting one woman affects the equality of all women.
What’s a UBC Campus hidden gem that more people should know about?
I rarely leave the law school, but I’d have to say the Beaty Museum. Also the memorial to the Montreal Massacre victims near the Engineering School. Not a “gem,” but I worry that event and its significance risks being forgotten.
Anything else?
Almost everything you learn about criminal law from television is wrong.
