Subject: Research Findings on LinkedIn Best Practices

As outlined in the instructions for Lesson 2.2, I have researched the best practices for professional networking on LinkedIn. I have narrowed down my research findings to the best 10 recommendations below:

  • Only use professional photos – always remember that your LinkedIn profile isn’t a personal social media page, a nice-looking professional photo wearing business attire can make a significant first impression
  • Keep your profile updated – this tip is essential, especially for those people who forget that their profile can look outdated relatively quickly
  • Develop a short but concise summary – your summary should detail your career goals, skills and interests and provide a picture into who you are as a professional
  • Post intriguing content – one of best ways to make your profile stand out is to post content or articles that showcase your expertise and relevant knowledge in your areas of interest
  • Eliminate grammar mistakes – poor grammar, misspellings and use of slang are a definite mistake, instead use professional and concise vocabulary
  • Find and Join Groups – one of the best ways to start connecting with people is to join groups that you have an interest in, joining these groups will help you network with like-minded people
  • Reach out to people who look at your profile – when people view your profile they are probably doing so for a reason, reach out to these people through connection requests
  • Become friends with your LinkedIn contacts – one of the best ways to take networking to the next level is to actually try to make real in person friendships with people you meet on LinkedIn
  • Search for people in places you would like to be – a great way to start developing contacts is to connect with people already in positions where you would like to be, send a connection request and get to know them
  • Give and ask for endorsements – endorsing colleagues on LinkedIn for their skills and abilities and asking for endorsements is a great way to make your profile stand out

Hopefully, these tips provide for a more rewarding and beneficial experience when using LinkedIn for professional networking. If you have any questions or would like to discuss these recommendations further, please feel free to reach out to me.
