Jet-Setting with Jordan: Alberto Guzman ft Hawaii

Alberto is an Enrolment Services Advisor and he helps support students with financial aid, budgeting, awards, registration, prospective student advising and much more!  Alberto says that “Enrolment Services is so great because of the work we do to benefit our students, and working along such great people!”

Where have your recent travels taken you to?

In April 2018 I had travelled to the island of Oahu in Hawaii for a wedding. We spent 5 nights on the north shore in the town Haleiwa and then another 5 nights in Honolulu, mostly in the Waikiki neighborhood.

Tell us some highlights of your trip!

 There are ton of things to see and do on the Island of Oahu, here a few of the things that I did and enjoyed!

• Watched surfers on the Bonzai Pipeline – Our stay on the north shore was at the Billabong house and just steps away was the Pipeline where professional surfers from around the world surf. It was amazing to see how big the waves were getting, even in the off season!
• Snorkeling in Hanauma Bay – Was really amazing to see all the sea life and before you’re able to go to the beach they do their best to educate visitors on the importance of preserving the Bay by following instructions not to damage the coral life.

• Go on the Lanikai Pillbox Hike – This was a really fun hike with some fun graffiti on the pillboxes as well as a wonderful view of the ocean and islands.

What was one of your favourite things you had to eat in Oahu?

 Visit the Dole Plantation – Some of the freshest pineapple I have ever tasted and Dole whip was really tasty as well!

Eat tasty treats – Acai bowls were a definite favorite while on the North Shore. There were tons of delicious options while in Waikiki and we tended to favor the Japanese restaurants. There was one tonkastsu place that was worth a couple of trips (Tonkatsu Ginza Bairin).

And as always, do you have any advice for our future jet-setters?

Oahu was a wonderful island to visit and worth exploring both the city for the food and entertainment and the north shore for the laid back vibes beauty.
