Late last year after the world experienced some tragic natural disasters, Student Records and Systems Management decided it would be a good idea to do some safety training! Our (former) Room 0040 Health & Safety rep Jordan Lee came to a team meeting to teach us all about emergency preparedness.

We began by going through our emergency kits and learning about all the safety equipment and emergency rations contained within – it was also a good idea because we found out that a couple folks were missing some items so we were able to order new ones to ensure we are all prepared!

We then went through and learned what to do in case of an earthquake – Drop, Cover and Hold. In case of an earthquake we are all to stay inside and move away from windows, shelves and heavy objects. We then learned to drop under heavy furniture such as a table or desk, cover our head, face and torso to prevent being hit by heavy objects, and hold on to the object that we are under in order to remain covered.

Once the shaking stops, we learned to count to 60 to allow debris to finish falling, to assess our surroundings for danger, and then proceed with evacuating the building.

We all found the training incredibly useful and reassuring in the unlikely event that we find ourselves here at work during an emergency.
