The Undergraduate Admissions office is pleased to have some new faces join us in the trenches of our 2018 admission cycle. From left to right we have: Nao Fujiwara, Willa Boa, Nicole Kelly, Alexis Watts, Terrance Chui, Christiana Lee, Sohmi Chuon, Justin O’Hearn, Michael Hong and Meng Shu.

They are truly a diverse and interesting bunch.  Nao, Wila, Alexis, Justin, Michael and Meng are joining our team in the roles of Admissions Coordinators and Nicole, Terry, Christiana and Sohmi are our newest Admissions Advisors. The bunch have already mastered the art of soothing the nerves of some of our most anxious applicants and can be usually be found under the avalanche of our applications.

There were way too many interesting tidbits to share yet here are a few to tantalize your tastebuds:

Willa has a wealth of expertise in relation to delicious beverages as she was a part-time bartener and Nicole once sang on stage with the band Cake, “Short Skirt, Long Jacket” Terry says that when he thinks to himself, he speaks in English but counts in Chinese.

Justin is truly a UBC celebrity as he launched a fundraising campaign to buy a rare 19th century erotic novel and it is now housed in the UBC Rare Books and Special Collection in Ike Barber. Not only is UBC the only library in the world to have this book, he received a write up in the Guardian because of it.

Sohmi is not only a Professional piano accompanist who owns a concert-sized 6-foot-4 Boston Steinway grand piano in her little 650 sqft suite but in high school, she could solve the rubix cube in under 2 minutes.

Christiana broke the Squamish hospital record for being the heaviest baby, and walked out of her mother’s womb weighing a hefty 12 lbs, while Alexis may or may not be found still carrying around her fossil brushes from her recent archeological excavations in Sicily, Italy. They are a very well-traveled bunch and Meng has been to all the continents except Australia and the Antarctic and Michael has previously interned at the United Nations.

We are delighted to have them with us until June 2018 so please do say hello if you see them around Brock Hall.
