Volunteer Opportunity:
GSS/AMS Referendum Ad Hoc Committee
Meet other graduate students and give back to the graduate student community! Your GSS is looking for volunteers to join the GSS/AMS Referendum Ad Hoc Committee.


The committee will hold a needs assessment on the AMS services that graduate students currently use, draft proposals for how to proceed as a Society, and prepare for a related 2018 referendum. This will require research, consultation with the GSS membership, and careful consideration of many factors.


This volunteer opportunity is open to all current UBC graduate students, preferably with some familiarity with the AMS and GSS, as well as AMS and GSS services. Ideally, the volunteers come with experience or interest in consultations and project management.


Committee members are expected to attend regularly committee meetings, approximately 2 per month. The GSS/AMS Referendum Ad Hoc Committee will run from the end of July 2017 to March 2018.

Waitlist registration is now open for the Instructional Skills Workshop (ISW) August 5, 6, 12 2017. The ISW is an internationally recognized program and students receive transcript notation for their participation. In addition, graduate students in STEM departments are eligible to become CIRTL associates upon completion of the workshop.   The ISW is a 3-day intensive workshop that develops participant’s teaching skills and confidence.  It is appropriate for first time teachers or those with years of experience.  Join the thousands of students who have taken this workshop. 

IMPORTANT: The workshop runs from 8:15am-5:00pm. Please note you must be able to attend all three days, i.e. the entire 24-hour workshop.  Please find attached the policy for registering in an ISW and an FAQ sheet. This workshop is always in high demand. To register for the August 5, 6, 12 ISW, please go to the following link and sign-up:  http://events.ctlt.ubc.ca/events/graduate-instructional-skills-workshop-august-5-6-12-2017/ .
