Call for Applications – UBC Sustainability Scholars (paid summer internships)
The UBC Sustainability Scholars Program is pleased to offer UBC graduate students the opportunity to work in funded sustainability internship projects.
We are currently accepting applications for over 65 diverse and interesting internship opportunities. The program runs from April 29 through August 12 and current UBC graduate students from all academic disciplines are encouraged to apply. Applications close midnight Monday February 25.
Successful candidates work under the guidance of a mentor from one of our partner organizations, and are immersed in real world learning where they can apply their research skills and contribute to advancing the organization’s sustainability goals. Each Scholar receives $21 per hour to complete 250 to 500 hours of work (check the project description to confirm the number of hours and relevant deadlines).

The Pacific Regional Society of Soil Science (PRSSS) invites you to attend its annual Spring Workshop and AGM which will be held on March 30, 2019 at the University of British Columbia – Vancouver Campus. The theme of this year’s workshop is ‘Frontiers in Soil Science’. The workshop will feature several exciting talks from the expert soil scientists who are conducting cutting edge research and an afternoon session with technology demonstrations and related discussions.

In conversation with Professor Wade Davis
The School of Public Policy and Global Affairs (SPPGA) has partnered with the Vancouver Writers Fest to invite UBC students, staff, and faculty to join award-winning author and environmentalist Barry Lopez in conversation with Professor Wade Davis on the evening of March 25th at the Granville Island Stage.
Lopez’s new book, Horizon, is being called one of the most important non-fiction books of the decade. Many of you may know Wade Davis, Professor of Anthropology and the BC Leadership Chair in Cultures and Ecosystems at Risk at UBC.
Students can purchase discounted tickets for $15 under the “Youth” category with ID presented at the event. Regular tickets are $25.

Graduate Student Career Activation Project
The CSIC wants to know how graduate students can activate their careers, and we have funds available to help you try stuff out. Dream big, or dive deep: whether it’s the cost of printing business cards to support your networking, enhancing your French language skills to prepare for a career in the federal government, or paying membership fees to join a professional association, submit a proposal for a career development experience that you believe will get you one step closer to your goals. Each student may apply for funding of any amount up to $1000.
Once you’ve activated, we’ll work with you to develop an appropriate artefact (video interview, blog, etc.) so that your experience can be shared with other UBC graduate students and the university community.

The UBC Pre-Vet and Animal Welfare (PAW) club is happy to present its 3rd annual UBC PAW Animal Welfare Conference! This year’s conference has a focus on “Wildlife Management and Conservation”, with five renowned speakers joining to share their expertise. The 2019 UBC PAW Animal Welfare Conference looks to shed more light on human-wildlife interactions and how an individual may personally impact wildlife welfare in their day-to-day life.
This year’s conference will be held at the Graduate Student Society Loft in the AMS Nest (RM 4202) on March 8th from 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm. Our speakers include professors from the University of British Columbia and University of Calgary, as well has animal health care professionals from the Vancouver Aquarium, and a representative from the BC SPCA. Each speaker has had experience working with wildlife and are longtime advocates for wildlife welfare.
