CHANGE TO GRADUATION APPLICATION FOR MAY 2022

Standard

Hello all,

We have a change to this year’s online application deadline for graduation in May 2022.  That is the date you can apply in the SSC for graduation.

The online application will be open until Friday April 22, 2022.

PLEASE NOTE – This is only for students who are in G+PS administered programs.

Previously Grad Studies would put up a paper application on their website when the online application closed.  They won’t be doing that this year as the online application has been extended for them already.
A student must apply to be eligible for graduation.

DOCTORAL EXAMS NOTE – PhD students – you should have booked the defense date already if you want to graduate in May.  If not then you should contact our Doc Exams office immediately.

Call for Nominations: Schmidt Science Fellowships

Standard

INTERNAL Deadline: Friday, March 18, 2022

Schmidt Science Fellowships

The Schmidt Science Fellows program provides the world’s best emerging scientists with new skills and perspectives to develop novel solutions to society’s challenges, become scientific and societal thought leaders, and accelerate ground-breaking discoveries.  The program is looking for the brightest minds in the natural sciences, mathematics, engineering, and computing who are interested in broadening their horizons.  Fellows receive a stipend of $100,000 USD per year and are supported to pursue a one to two year postdoctoral placement at a world-leading laboratory anywhere in the world in a disciplinary pivot from their PhD.  Fellows also benefit from a Global Meeting Series and personalized mentoring program.

UBC is one of select group of the world’s leading science and engineering institutions that are invited to nominate students to the international competition.  In 2021, 28 Schmidt Science Fellows were selected to be recipients globally.

As part of the eligibility requirements, applicants must have completed, or expect to complete, all the requirements for the conferral of their UBC PhD, including a successful defense, between 1 June 2022 and 30 July 2023.

Each UBC graduate program is invited to submit one nomination to the university-wide competition. Given the highly competitive nature of this opportunity, graduate programs should nominate only an exceptional individual who will stand out amongst top applicants from around the world.

  • Value: $100,000 USD per year, for up to two years
  • Application deadline: Set by graduate program.  Applicants must submit their application to their UBC graduate program by their graduate program’s internal deadline.
  • Graduate program nomination deadline: 8 April 2022 at 4:00 pm PT

For further information about the opportunity, including detailed eligibility requirements, evaluation criteria and application procedures, please visit our webpage: https://www.grad.ubc.ca/awards/schmidt-science-fellowships
