Ivarson Soils Scholarship – Call for Applications

The Dr. Karl C. Ivarson Soil ScienceScholarshipprovides financial support to a student entering the second or subsequent year of graduate studies in soil science (agriculture, environment, geology, agro-ecology or other related disciplines) at a Canadian university. Candidates must hold Canadian Citizenship or Permanent Residence status in Canada and be enrolled in their graduate program for at least one semester beyond the application deadline.

Call for Nominations: Sumaila-Volvo Graduate Prize in Environmental Sustainability

Sumaila-Volvo Graduate Prize In Environmental Sustainability

A $3,850 prize has been made available through an endowment established by UBC faculty member Dr. Rashid Sumaila upon being named the 2017 Volvo Environment Prize laureate for a Master’s or Ph.D. student whose peer-reviewed publications to date are expected to have the most significant impact on the field of environmental sustainability.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Nominees must be registered in a UBC-Vancouver Master’s or PhD program in the 2019W session
  • Preference is given to students supervised by faculty members who are affiliated with the Institute for the Oceans and Fisheries; the Institute for Resources, Environment and Sustainability; or the School of Public Policy and Global Affairs. Students who are not supervised by faculty members affiliated with these units will be considered only if there is no nomination received from these units.

LFS Graduate Program Office updates

Because of coronavirus pandemic and social distancing protocols, the LFS Graduate Program Office has suspended all in-person interactions until further notice. If you have any questions regarding graduate studies, please contact either Lia Maria Dragan (lia.maria@ubc.ca) or Mahesh Upadhyaya (mahesh.upadhyaya@ubc.ca) by email. We will try to respond to your email as quickly as possible.

For the next few weeks, graduate students can choose to work from home without any penalty. However, if they decide on their own to come to campus for their research, we suggest that they should discuss this matter with their supervisor.  For their own safety, it is recommended that they should keep their office or laboratory door closed while working and have a friend or colleague present with them to help in case there is an accident. If you have any question in this regard, please do not hesitate to contact Lia or Mahesh by email.
