Doctoral Deadlines Reminder

This is a friendly reminder from the Doctoral Exams Office that the first deadline for Doctoral Candidates who would like to graduate in May 2020 is this week. The deadlines for Doctoral Examination and Dissertation Submission are as follows:

  • Friday, November 29, 2019: Appointment of External Examiner form submitted to Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.
  • Friday, January 24, 2020: Doctoral dissertation and supporting documentation submitted to Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.
  • Friday, March 20, 2020: Last day for Oral Defence.
  • Friday, April 17, 2020: Acceptance of final approved dissertation by Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (cIRcle submission).

Scholarships for Summer/Winter programs in California

We wish to communicate to all students the opportunity to apply for Executive Business programs in California.

I’m Professor Ricardo Britto, one of the associates responsible for coordinating short-term certificate programs in partnership with California State University, Northridge (CSUN) and University of La Verne (ULV).

Designed to take place during school breaks, our three-week programs are held in January, July and, if you’re a postgraduate, September the courses include company visits, interviews with executives, lectures, seminars, group presentations and business simulations.

Our mission is to encourage cross-cultural cooperation and make studying abroad an experience as accessible as possible, therefore partial scholarships that cover 70% of the tuition fees are being granted.

Courses at CSUN are Business EnglishCommunication Design and Innovation, Digital Companies, Leadership in an Age of Disruption and the E-Business Revolution and Design Thinking and Innovation. At ULV they are Business English, Finance and Accounting, Leading and Coaching the Human Organization, Strategy and Marketing, Contemporary Topics in Public Administration.

The SEEDS Sustainability Program, UBC Wellbeing Secretariat, together with the recently formed Food Insecurity Action Team (FIAT), are launching a new university-wide multi-stakeholder and interdisciplinary Food Insecurity Action Initiative, and are hiring an Applied Research Coordinator. The successful candidate will support the launch of this new university-wide multi-stakeholder and interdisciplinary Food Insecurity Action Initiative, to lead a new student-led applied research cluster on food insecurity solutions on our campuses.

We are especially looking for someone with experience in fostering interdisciplinary collaborations and in applied research pertaining to food insecurity, food system sustainability and/or heath. Position: Applied Research Coordinator, Food Insecurity

Department: SEEDS Sustainability Program, Campus + Community Planning

Hours: Full-time

Duration:  1 year, potential to be extended to 2 years

Overview:

  • Working primarily in applied research and partnership coordination, the candidate will develop and coordinate a new student-led applied research cluster on food insecurity, taking a Campus as a Living Lab approach to investigate, evaluate, and share knowledge for food insecurity supports and  solutions on our campuses.
  • This position operates within Campus and Community Planning (C+CP) and reports to the Manager, SEEDS Sustainability Program. The incumbent will work closely with a corresponding new position of Food Insecurity Project Manager within the UBC Wellbeing Secretariat, and works collaboratively with members of the Food Insecurity Action Team.

Key work performed:

  • Facilitate the co-creation of applied research projects pertaining to food insecurity and sustainability through Interdisciplinary Knowledge Exchange workshops, committees and meetings with a diversity of students, staff, faculty, and community partners.
