2017 Friedman Award for Scholars in Health — Information Session

Standard

Interested applicants to the 2017 Friedman Award for Scholars in Health should note that there is an Information Session scheduled for the following time:

Wednesday, January 25th, 1:00-2:00pm in Life Sciences Centre 1510.

This session will include a brief introduction to the award by myself and Dr. Wendy Robinson, Assistant Dean of Graduate and Postdoctoral Education in the Faculty of Medicine, followed by an informal Q&A session. Please do attend if you are planning on applying for this prestigious award.

The Friedman Award for Scholars in Health is named after Constance Livingstone-Friedman and Sydney Friedman, the first two faculty members in the UBC Faculty of Medicine. Drs. Constance and Sydney Friedman believed that a full well-rounded education requires students to learn from different perspectives and learn from different cultures. The goal of the Friedman Award is to provide funding to graduate students or medical residents so that they can pursue a learning opportunity to further their career or to bring new perspectives to the education they have already received.

Award

Two to four scholarships of $25,000 to $50,000 each will be awarded for six or more months of study and are open to renewal for one time only. The amount of the scholarship will be at the discretion of the adjudication committee within the above stated range. Each recipient of a Friedman Award will be designated a “Friedman Scholar”.
