Two exciting PhD studentships relating to diet and gut health

Standard

We are thrilled to announce our team is offering two exciting 3-year PhD studentships relating to diet and gut health available to graduates with a BSc (First or Upper Second) or MSc (Distinction or Merit) in nutrition or dietetics. The studentships will commence in October 2017 and successful applicants will be based at the Waterloo Campus of King’s College London, supervised by Professor Kevin Whelan. Both studentships will include the opportunity to examine the association between the gut microbiome and response to dietary intervention.

Project 1: Almonds and their impact on gastrointestinal physiology, microbiology and function Optimising gut transit and the microbiome are important to the maintenance of gut health.

Project 2: Identifying the role of food additive emulsifiers in Crohn’s Disease Emerging evidence suggests that novel components of a Western diet, including food additives may play a role in gut inflammation such as that occurring in inflammatory bowel disease.
