Future faculty teaching training with CIRTL

The Centre for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning (CIRTL) welcomes you to the new academic year with three options for graduate student professional development in the study of teaching and learning (pedagogy):

 

  1. Foundations of Pedagogy course http://cirtl.ubc.ca/get-involved/foundations-of-pedagogy/

This is a free, non-credit UBC face to face course to learn about teaching effectively, and successful completion qualifies you to register as a CIRTL Associate.

It will be held from 9-11 AM on Wednesdays, Sept. 20-Nov 8 in Koerner Library in the Research Commons, room 216. Register at the link above before Sept 13; registration will be capped at 25 students.

  1. Teaching with Technology- Discover new instructional tools and learn how to critically evaluate evolving technologies.
  2. Teaching-as-Research- Plan and refine your own Teaching-as-Research project alongside a learning community of peers.
  3. Creating Assessments for the STEM Classroom-Learn how to create and implement assessments particular to STEM courses.
  4. The College Classroom: Teaching Inclusively-Study issues of inclusion and develop an inclusive micro-teaching plan in this hands-on course.
  5. Diversity in the College Classroom-Understand the theory behind how diversity affects learning and develop practical classroom strategies.
  6. Gender Bias Intervention in STEM for Women and Men- Analyze gender bias and collaboratively develop approaches to counter gender bias in STEM.
  1. An Introduction to Evidence-Based Undergraduate STEM Teaching-Massive Open Online Course (MOOC)

Runs Monday, October 2 through Friday, November 17 Learn about STEM teaching at your own pace through online video modules and discussion boards in this MOOC developed by CIRTL Network faculty. No cap.

Note: if we have enough interest, we will start a MOOC-centered learning community, i.e. a group of people taking the MOOC who will meet at UBC to discuss the MOOC weekly topic. Please email Jens below if you would like to join this MOOC discussion group.
