FNH research study

Standard

Are you a woman aged between 20 and 35 years old?

Are you interested in participating in Nutrition Research?

We are currently seeking female volunteers to take part in a research study to investigate how methionine is used in our bodies. Amino acids are the building blocks of our body and it is important to be able to measure amino acids such as methionine to understand how our body works. Recent research shows that there might be a quicker method to test how our body uses these building blocks.

Following a successful health screening visit, we require 6 hours of your time in a single visit at the Women’s Health Research Institute (Oak Street Campus).

During this visit, we will ask you for blood and breath samples and information on your dietary intake and B-vitamin status.

You will receive a gift voucher as a thank you for your time.

We ask that all participants:

  • Have not been taking vitamin supplements, amino acid or protein supplements regularly, i.e., more than once a week, within the last six months
  • Do not Chronically consume a high-protein diet (e.g. Atkins Diet) within the last six months
  • Have no chronic medical conditions such as diabetes, asthma, cancer, cardiovascular disease, a history of neural tube defect (such as spina bifida) affected pregnancy, have had gastrointestinal surgery, abnormal kidney, thyroid function, or psychiatric illness, or any other chronic disease
  • Are not pregnant or breast feeding or planning to become pregnant during this study
  • Do not Smoke, use recreational drugs, or drink more than one alcohol drink per day or more than seven per week.
  • Do not take long-term prescription medication such as hormonal contraceptives (birth control pill), antidepressants, anticonvulsants, anticoagulants, or other chronic medication
  • Have not donated blood in the last three months prior to study start
