Global Affairs Canada/CBIE Scholarship Announcement for UBC – 2018/2019

I am happy to share that Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada (DFATD), through Global Affairs Canada and CBIE, is seeking applications for the scholarships outlined below. These awards are available to international graduate and undergraduate students, to conduct research and study at UBC on both campuses, within the framework of existing agreements between UBC and their home institutions. I encourage you to share widely among your Faculties and colleagues, as they may be contacted by international students seeking to apply for this scholarship and undertake research within their particular field.

Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada (DFATD), through the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) is seeking applications from Canadian publicly funded institutions for the 2018-2019 Students’ Exchange Program (SEP):

·              Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program

·              Canada-CARICOM Leadership Scholarships Program

·              Canada-Chile Leadership Exchange Scholarship

·              Canada-CARICOM Faculty Leadership Program

·              Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development (SEED)

 

Please note the introduction of the Canada-ASEAN Scholarship this year. This is a new scholarship for citizens of an ASEAN member state (Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos (Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR)), Malaysia, Myanmar, The Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, or Vietnam). This scholarship is for students who choose a field of study or research that is aligned with, and contribute to, the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. 

General Eligibility Criteria:  

  • These awards are available to international students to undertake research or study at UBC for a period of 4 to 8 months.  
  • The candidate’s studies or research may commence as early as June 1, 2018 and no later than February 1, 2019.
  • Students must be citizens of eligible countries.
  • All awards are available to graduate and undergraduate students for study or research activity, with the exception of the Faculty Leadership Program, which is available only to full-time employed faculty or an international manager/administrator.
  • For undergraduate students, a signed agreement or understanding between UBC and the student’s home institution must be in place at the time of application. 
  • Students coming to undertake coursework must be from UBC student mobility partner institutions. For a list of UBC mobility partners, please consult the partner university search tool.
  • Students coming to undertake research must be from institutions with which UBC has established research activity.

Application Process:

CBIE requires all applications to be submitted directly by a single representative at UBC on behalf of the student. Go Global plays a coordinating role for all applications submitted on behalf of the University of British Columbia (Vancouver and Okanagan).

Deadline: The deadline to nominate and submit all application documentation for a student to Go Global is Sunday, April 8, 2018. The complete application must be submitted to Go Global by this date in order to ensure that it can be considered.
