March 11, 2021, 7:30-8:30 pm PST

Emma Carlson (she/her) is a Registered Clinical Counsellor who specializes in youth suicide intervention and prevention. She has a B.Sc Hons in Behavioural Neuroscience from SFU and a Master’s of Arts in Counselling Psychology from UBC. Emma has almost a decade of experience in suicide prevention work and currently works for a non-profit organization, helping young people manage ongoing suicidality, self-harm, and other risky behaviours. Additionally, in her private practice, she works with high performers (athletes, academics, and creatives) to help them achieve their goals and live their lives in a way that is balanced and sustainable. Emma aligns her theoretical orientation towards Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and values its multifaceted and intuitive approach to working with folx who experience emotion dysregulation (whether under- or over-regulated). She has both trained and been supervised in DBT, and employs its teachings and techniques in almost every area of her work. Emma is committed to the continued discourse around suicide prevention work, and using evidence-based treatment to assist the folx she works within crafting a life that feels worth living, and enjoyable.
