Spring Graduate Awards Competition

Standard

Internal deadline – May 7, 2021

Please notify me about your intention of applying by Apr 23rd.

Spring Graduate Awards Competition

A number of criteria-based awards for the 2021/22 academic year are available to current and incoming graduate students. Applicants will apply via their graduate programs with a single application that may be considered for as many of the awards as they are eligible for, taking note of the following important considerations:

Eligibility: To be eligible to receive funding, applicants must meet both the overall eligibility requirements as outlined on the award webpage (ex. months of study) and all of the eligibility requirements for each Spring Graduate Award they apply for. Applicants will not be considered for an award if they do not clearly meet the criteria for the award.

Selection:   While award recipients will be selected based on the evaluation criteria, priority will be given to eligible candidates who do not hold significant scholarship funding (i.e., $16,000 or higher) for the 2021/22 academic year (September 2021 to August 2022).  If a student is offered Spring Awards funding, and later receives other scholarship funding of $16,000 or higher for the same period, the Spring Awards funding offer would normally be rescinded.

  • Exception: The #6507 Montalbano Scholars Fellowship, which is part of the Spring Graduate Awards Competition, is specifically awarded to applicants who already hold significant scholarship funding.

Applicants must submit the following materials to my attention (lia.maria@ubc.ca ) by the deadline:

  1. Completed Application Form – PART 1
  2. Completed Application Form – PART 2
  3. Canadian CCV – CGS-Master’s version
  4. Up-to-date, complete transcripts for all undergraduate and graduate studies (including studies undertaken but not completed) up to December 31, 2020.
  5. One recommendation letter/form: see the application instructionsfor details.

Please refer to the application instructions for essential details on each application item noted above.

Important note: Please make sure you meet the eligibility for the specific awards you have selected (in the completed Application Form – PART 2). The Spring Graduate Awards competition tends to receive a high number of nominations from applicants who have weak or non-existent eligibility for the specific awards they have applied for.

Deadline for nominations to G+PS: 4:00 pm on Friday, 21 May 2021. (Applicants should check with their graduate program for the department’s internal deadline.)
