IBPOC Wellness Mentors Programming

Standard

I hope this email finds you well. I apologize that this message comes rather last minute – I have newly taken over the Indigenous, Black, People of Colour (IBPOC) Wellness Mentors program from the UBC Wellness Centre and was hoping to share with you some supports we have available for IBPOC students during this upcoming exam season and beyond. Please feel free to share with the appropriate students and student groups. If there is a communications channel that I can join to share these resources with IBPOC students in your respective faculty or department, please let me know.

IBPOC Wellness & ChillWednesday December 1st, 4:30-6pm: We invite students who identify as being Indigenous, Black or Persons of Colour (IBPOC) to join us for our last IBPOC Wellness & Chill for the year. Come connect with other IBPOC students, play games, do some colouring or enjoy some snacks. We’ll have goodie bags to get you ready for exam season and even some egg nog for those who want to get into the holiday spirit or have never tried it (coconut nog for those of us that are lactose intolerant).

IBPOC Drop-in 1:1 Mentoring – Monday-Thursday 11am-2pm: Whether it is about time management, pressure you feel from family (or yourself) to do well, or even feeling lonely being away from family during the holidays, feel free to drop by to chat with our IBPOC Wellness Mentors. Our Mentors are here to listen, help you reflect on your experiences, or share resources to help you navigate your health and wellbeing as an IBPOC student. Drop-in mentoring conversations are available in-person and virtually Monday-Thursday 11am-2pm through the term until December 21st. Mentoring drop-in will resume on January 10th after the break. Find out more about team of IBPOC Wellness Mentors.

Lastly, feel free to follow us on Instagram @UBCWellnessCentre where we will start sharing more about the experiences of IBPOC students.

Thank you for supporting the diverse experiences of health & wellbeing for UBC students. I am looking forward to staying in touch about the services and supports available for IBPOC student wellbeing.

Thanks,
