Registration is now open to UBC graduate students for Designing for Transformation – a free, non-credit course for learning and applying approaches from social innovation, systemic design and regenerative development, using equity-centered and decolonizing methodologies. The course is led by interdisciplinary practitioners Lindsay Cole, Lerato Chondoma and Jennifer Cutbill (with feature guests to be announced during the course).

The challenges we face demand more than incremental change, they require transformation. This in turn requires transforming our ways of knowing, being and doing, and our roles and responsibilities in relation. This offering provides opportunities to un/learn and apply emergent and resurgent practices with peers across disciplines, working on an enriching diversity of complex challenges; all supported by practitioners working across sectors, disciplines and knowledge systems.

Together, we will co-create an inter/transdisciplinary learning environment centering abundance, joy, courage, and compassion to work transformatively on complex, applied challenges that really matter.

Who is This For: current UBC graduate students (Ph.D. or Masters) and Postdoctoral Fellows.

Format: two modules; a total of eight synchronous, online sessions. Option for peer groups to meet in person (we may also meet in person for the closing session of Module 2 – but TBC together).

Schedule:

• MODULE 1 – Planting Seeds (introduction): Synchronous class sessions: May 16, 23 and 30, 2023. Register by May 14, 2023 to secure a spot
• MODULE 2 – Growing Roots & Shoots (deeper application): Synchronous class sessions: June 13, 20, July 4,18, August 1, 2023. Register by June 3, 2022. Students applying for Module 2 must have completed Module 1.
