Recruiting UBC Students – Summer Science Program Staff

Standard

My name is Alyssa and I am the Program Coordinator for the Summer Science Program. The Summer Science Program runs for 2 weeks in July and brings together Indigenous high school students from urban and rural communities throughout British Columbia and other parts of Canada, for a culturally relevant and holistic learning opportunity designed to encourage the pursuit of post-secondary education, particularly in the science and health fields.

I am reaching out as we are currently recruiting enthusiastic UBC students to be a part of our 2-week staff, in particular we are looking for students interested in the Land and Food Coordinator positions, and we were hoping you could help promote this opportunity to students within Land and Food Systems.

This position’s role includes helping to deliver the programs food services, guiding staff/students on hygiene and food preparation prior to meals, and assisting staff in guiding students to workshops both on and off campus.

This year the camp runs from July 9th-July 22nd, and the applications for the positions will be open until this Friday May 19th. If you know any students who may be interested in this position or would be willing to share this opportunity with students in Land and Food Systems it would be greatly appreciated!

Here is a short blurb about the program and where to apply:

The Summer Science Program is a two week program open to high school students going into grades 9-12 with First Nations, Inuit, or Métis ancestry. The program is a great opportunity to meet new friends, connect with Elders and Indigenous role models. As well, the students will participate in cultural and health/STEM-related workshops.

We are currently looking for individuals who are interested in volunteering or working during the 2 week duration of the program (July 9th-22nd). More details about these positions can be found by searching for ‘Summer Science’ at CareersOnline UBC.

If you have any questions please reach out to summer.science@ubc.ca.

I have also attached a poster below which can be shared. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out!
