Invitation to LFS graduate students: World Food Day (Oct. 16) livestream

Standard

Dear LFS Graduate Students,

You are invited to attend a livestream:  World Food Day 2023 (Official Event): Water is Life. Water is Food. Leave no one behind.

This event is the Official North America World Food Day 2023 event. All sessions are moderated by food and agriculture journalists. Dean Rickey Yada will be opening the session at 12:30 pm.

The goal for this event is to highlight stories of hope and success in relation to the theme: Water is life. Water is food. Leave no one behind. We will explore historical roots and stories of change in British Columbia and beyond as we look to a more nourishing future from land to sea.

Water is essential to life on Earth. It covers the majority of the Earth’s surface, makes up over 50 percent of our bodies, produces our food, and supports our livelihoods. But this precious resource is not infinite and is impacted by unsustainable food and agriculture systems.

The event will be free to livestream, with stakeholders that include United Nations leadership, the non-profit community, policymakers, journalists, food businesses, the academic community, farmers, activists, individuals with lived experiences, and the funding and donor community. This unified approach aims to have a significant impact as we move towards the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai.

This event is presented by the FAO Food and Agriculture Program of the United Nations North America, Food Tank, Driscoll’s, WholeChain, UBC and SFU, in collaboration with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the University of Guelph and the Forum for Farmers and Food Security.
