Orientation 2018: G+PS Resources for Grad Students

Standard

Orientation 2018 G+PS Resources for Grad Students

Thank you for sharing your orientation programming details, which have given us a good idea of the topics that are covered in your individual programs, and something to reflect on when we brainstorm on future G+PS orientation planning.

We put together an information packet of G+PS resources that aim to provide support for graduate students on their UBC grad journey, attached. Please feel free to share this document with your graduate students during your orientation events.

As you know, G+PS has worked closely with the Graduate Student Society and International Student Development on Orientation programming that begins on Thursday, August 30 with our Welcome events, and continues throughout September and October with various workshops and other events. The Program is available for download, which includes event schedules, maps, a list of participants in the Campus Resource and Activity Fair, upcoming events hosted by the GSS and G+PS, and other great resources. You can find a PDF and mobile-friendly epub on our Orientation website: http://orientation.grad.ubc.ca/resources/. We will also share with newly admitted students directly.

All the best for the upcoming term!

Warm regards,

Kelli

Service Canada SIN Clinics – Starting Mon Aug 27

Standard

Subject: Service Canada SIN Clinics – Starting Mon Aug 27

Hello team,

For the first time, Service Canada will be issuing Social Insurance Numbers (SIN) on-campus and will also have extended hours at their Broadway office for UBC students.

I would appreciate your assistance in advertising the clinics to students and strongly encouraging them to register for the highlighted dates below (with a particular emphasis on Monday!) if they are available. Please post the attached signage in your office.

Students must register into hourly time slots online through Canvas. Please share this link: https://canvas.ubc.ca/courses/25775

Students will not be able to view availability without registering into the course. You may wish to enroll yourself so that you could let them know if there are spots left. If a student is unable or unwilling to register online, please register using your own CWL to save a spot then send me an email with the time block and the student’s name.

There is no cut-off time for registration; students are encouraged to register and cancel as soon as possible. I will provide Service Canada with the list of student names on the days of the appointments. If students cancel/register afterwards I may not be able to update the list, however Service Canada will have some flexibility to accommodate changes.

If a student has their study permit with them, please check that they have a condition stating they ‘may work’ or ‘may accept employment’ to confirm eligibility.

Here are the time slots:
