Call for Abstracts – Nutrition Resource Centre – 2017 Forum on Nutrition and Mental Health

Standard

I’m writing on behalf of the Nutrition Resource Centre to inform you of our upcoming conference this November, 9, 2017 on nutrition and mental health in Toronto, Ontario.
At this one day event, we aim to bring together nutrition and health promotion professionals from across Ontario (and Canada) to explore the relationship between nutrition and mental health. We’ll have a mix of presentations, workshops and networking sessions so attendees can learn from others across the health sector whose work is connected to this topic.

Our 2017 Forum will combine scientific evidence and practical experiences surrounding nutrition and mental health with moving personal stories and opportunities to network with inspiring leaders in the field.

We’re thrilled to bring a diverse range of speakers from academia, community health, public health and more to dive into the complex relationship between nutrition and mental health/ wellbeing. Our keynote speaker is Dr. Drew Ramsey, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, Colombia University, and one of psychiatry’s leading proponents of using dietary change to help balance moods, sharpen brain function and improve mental health. Read his bio here

If you’re passionate about maximizing nutrition and mental health together to promote overall health and wellbeing, this is your can’t-miss event of the year!

CIHR Operating Grant Awarded to Jennifer Black and Claire Tugault-Lafleur to study diets of Canadian children

Standard

Congratulations to Dr. Jennifer Black and PhD candidate Claire Tugault-Lafleur for their successful CIHR application to the special call for operating grants related to using Canadian Community Health Survey Data (CCHS-Nutrition Analysis Competition). In 2015, Statistics Canada carried out a nation-wide survey of what Canadians eat, making CCHS-2015 the first survey of national dietary habits since 2004 and only the second national nutrition survey since the 1970s.  This study will take advantage of this valuable opportunity to combine information from these two nutrition surveys to answer important questions about what children eat during school hours, how diets have changed over time and whether different cities and provinces have fared better when it comes to what children eat at school.
A special thank you goes out to Nick Grant and Susan Barr for their input and expertise on this grant application
