Kate and Elissa here, the speaker coordinators for the 2017/2018 Les Ecologistes seminar series at Simon Fraser University. We are emailing you today to let you know about the upcoming seminar season.  

Les Ecologistes is a weekly seminar series hosted by the Department of Biological Sciences, presenting on topics of general ecological and evolutionary topics. Many of our speakers are researchers from here at SFU, however we have several speakers from outside the university scheduled for the upcoming season as well. Les Ecols takes place each Thursday from 12:30 to 1:30, in room B9242 at SFU Burnaby.

Call for Proposals: Mitacs Globalink Research Award

The Mitacs Globalink Research Award supports research collaborations between Canada and select partner countries. The award is open to undergraduate and graduate students in all disciplines. Funding varies by destination. The current call for proposals opens on September 13 and closes on November 8, 2017.

Dan David Prize – Call for Nominations

The Dan David Prize is a joint international corporation, endowed by the Dan David Foundation and headquartered at Tel Aviv University. The prize recognizes and encourages innovative and interdisciplinary research that cuts across traditional boundaries and paradigms, and covers three time dimensions – Past, Present and Future – that represent realms of human achievement.

Three prizes of one million US dollars are awarded to individuals and institutions with prove, exceptional excellence and contribution to humanity in the sciences, arts, humanities, public service and business.

The nomination deadline is November 30, 2017. Nomination guidelines are available here.

There are also scholarships of $15,000 USD available for doctoral and post-doctoral researchers. The application deadline is March 10, 2018.

Graduate Programs: Waitlist Registration is now OPEN for the October 22, 28, 29 2017 Grad SIW

Waitlist registration is now open for the Instructional Skills Workshop (ISW) October 22, 29, 29 2017.  The ISW is an internationally recognized program and students receive transcript notation for their participation. In addition, graduate students in STEM departments are eligible to become CIRTL associates upon completion of the workshop.   The ISW is a 3-day intensive workshop that develops participant’s teaching skills and confidence.  It is appropriate for first time teachers or those with years of experience.  Join the thousands of students who have taken this workshop. 

IMPORTANT: The workshop runs from 8:15am-5:00pm. Please note you must be able to attend all three days, i.e. the entire 24-hour workshop.  Please find attached the policy for registering in an ISW and an FAQ sheet.  

This workshop is always in high demand.
