Supervisor Appreciation Week

Standard

Coming up in May, G+PS will be presenting our second annual Supervisor Appreciation Week! From May 7-13, we invite UBC graduate students to tell the world about their great supervisors through social media and an online submission form.

Graduate students will be invited to offer kudos using #GreatSupervisor #UBC on Twitter and Facebook.

#GreatSupervisor week started at the University of Calgary in 2014, and we are grateful to them for their inspiration and support in this initiative. Visit grad.ubc.ca/greatsupervisor to see what students said during last year’s Supervisor Appreciation Week.

Invitation to Attend Graduate Career Readiness Day

Standard

I would like to invite anyone interested to attend the upcoming  UBC Graduate Career Readiness Day (see attached poster) on Tuesday, May 22.  The event is targeted to Masters, PhDs, and Post-doc students who are interested in exploring career options outside of academia, and looking to feel empowered about doing so. If you are interested in learning more about supporting graduate students, this is a great event to attend.

The event consists of 2 parts:

9:30-12:00: Presentation by Anne Krook (former professor who went on to work in the private sector, notably at Amazon) on job search strategies. Full details here

12:30-2:30: Hands-on workshop by Tom Scholte of UBC’s Conflict Theatre on overcoming fear and negative self-talk. Full details here

You are welcome to attend one or both of the sessions; please email me to let me know if you are interested, and I will send out a calendar invite to those individuals.

Sincerely,
