The dates for the semi-final and final of 3MT@UBC 2020 are set for March 10 and 12th.   This will be our 10th annual 3MT competition!  Will your department be hosting a 3MT heat?  Please email jacqui.brinkman@ubc.ca to learn more, obtain a heat organizers package or schedule a “Giving an effective 3MT presentation” for your program.

The information below is a great opportunity for students interested in tackle Fresh Water issues – AquaHacking is a Tech Challenge – Winning teams will win cash prizes for a total of $50,000 and a secured spot in a start-up incubator. My name is Carolina Restrepo and I am the coordinator for the AquaHacking Challenge BC 2020 ( I am also the Coordinator for the BRAES Institute at UBC Okanagan), that is hosted by the Okanagan Basin Water Board in partnership with Universities in BC including UBCO, UBCV, SFU, etc. AquaHacking is a tech challenge designed to engage young innovators to tackle critical fresh water issues. With a view to producing pragmatic and demand-driven solutions, teams are mentored by experts from tech, environment, business, academia and government. Students from all post-secondary Institutions in BC are invited to participate. Winning teams will win cash prizes for a total of $50,000 and a secured spot in a start-up incubator. We are hosting an info-session at UBC on Wednesday, November 20th at 1:00 PM at Room MLS 101 Michael Smith Lab Building 2185 East Mall (refreshments served) attached you will find a social media shareable and poster about the event, if you can share this information in your social media channels, and with your members it will be great!. We are also hosting weekly webinars on Thursdays Nov 21 and 28. Registration for the webinars here. I have had previous communications with faculty members at your faculty that might be already aware of the challenge.

I am sharing this information with you, because students that might be interested in the challenge are part of your faculty, we are already working with the faculties on campus with the recruiting of students for the challenge. Here is a list of the departments which students might be interested in participating in the challenge, we already have about 10 students from UBC Vancouver and Okanagan registered and we hope to have many more!:
