Mark has been at the forefront of governance and infrastructure issues, with extensive experience in the planning, permitting and construction of capital projects connected to energy, resource extraction and community infrastructure around the world. As owner of consulting practice Brookmere Management Group (BMG), he is engaged as the Chair of the First Nations Limited Partnership (Pipelines), a 16-First Nations $2 billion commercial partnership, and as an Economic Advisor to a 50+ Indigenous nation collective seeking ownership of major projects such as pipelines and electric infrastructure.

Call for Applications: Sustainability Scholars paid internships

The UBC Sustainability Initiative (USI) is pleased to offer UBC graduate students the opportunity to work in funded sustainability internship projects.

We are currently accepting applications for over 60 UBC Sustainability Scholars (including Greenest City Scholars) internships that will commence May 4. Current UBC graduate students from all academic disciplines are eligible to apply.

Successful candidates will work under the mentorship of a partner organization, and are immersed in real world learning where they can apply their research skills and contribute to advancing organizational sustainability goals. Each Scholar receives $22 per hour to complete 250 hours of work.

Resumes, Cover Letters & Best Practices: Refining Your Scholars Application

 A workshop for UBC Grad students on how to strengthen and polish their application to the Sustainability Scholars Program.

Danielle Barkley, a career educator at UBC who specializes in supporting Masters and PhD students, will provide strategies and advice for developing a strong resume and cover letter. Karen Taylor, Manager of the Sustainability Scholars Program, will provide her perspective on the application and selection process, as well as common dos and don’ts.

Genotype-phenotype symposium

We would like to invite you to present at a symposium ‘Bridging genotype to phenotype: using rainbow trout as a model species‘ in the American Fishery Society (Western Division), annual general meeting. It is hosted in Pinnacle Hotel Harbourfront, Vancouver BC, April 12–16 2020.

The model species are NOT restricted to rainbow trout. You are very welcome to join us for a stimulating discussion If the research fit in the general topic of bridging genotype to phenotype. You can find more detailed descriptions in the symposium poster attached.

Call for Nominations: SSHRC Talent Award

SSHRC Talent Award – 2020 Competition

The SSHRC Talent Award recognizes outstanding achievement by an individual who, on April 1, 2020, holds a SSHRC doctoral or postdoctoral fellowship or scholarship. The Talent Award ($50,000 value) is given to an individual who maintains academic excellence, has a talent for research and knowledge mobilization, and has demonstrated clear potential to be a future leader within and/or outside the academic sector. One Talent Award will be awarded by SSHRC from the nominations submitted by Canadian universities.

The Talent Award may be taken up as a fellowship to fund the recipient’s doctoral or postdoctoral research over a one-year period, or may be used, within one year of receiving the award, as a grant to support research, knowledge mobilization or other research-related activities. At least 10 per cent of the award funds must be used to promote the recipient’s research achievements.

Eligibility: A nominee must be a citizen or permanent resident of Canada at the time of nomination, must be an active social sciences and humanities researcher or student, and must hold a SSHRC doctoral or postdoctoral fellowship or scholarship on April 1, 2020.

Nomination Deadline: Complete nomination packages must be received by the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (G+PS) by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, 28 February, 2020.  Graduate programs should set an internal application deadine for their applicants before this date.
