What : The LFS Undergraduate Society’s well known nutritious and deliciously themed dinner featuring the produce grown from the local orchard garden.

Where: Agora space (H.R. MacMillan bldg.)
Why: …Why not? It’s an affordable and delicious dinner that will build a sense of community within the faculty of LFS. It’s a great way to meet other fellow LFS’ers!

Volunteer for the Wednesday Night Dinners:

Oct 3rd: Presenting…TGI Sundaes!!

Are you a first year student and new to UBC? We have an event for you! The LFS|US and LFS Student Services office have teamed up to create an afternoon of fun!

WHEN: Thursday, October 3
WHERE: Student Recreation Centre (SRC) – details to follow
TIME: 4 – 6pm
COST: FREE!

WHAT: Dodge ball, followed by make-your-own sundaes. If dodge ball’s not your style, come to cheer on your fellow first year students and have some ice cream!

UBC’s Global Health Initiative (GHI) – Recruitment Night, Sept 30

On Monday September 30th, 2013, UBC’s Global Health Initiative (GHI) will be hosting a recruitment night at the William A. Webber Medical Student & Alumni Centre (on the corner of W 12th Ave. & Heather Street) @ 7pm

GHI is a student-led initiative that seeks to enhance global health education, and provides students the opportunity to take part in health projects globally, in such countries as Kenya, Uganda, Honduras, India and Canada. The Research EXperience (REX)

Undergraduate Research Opportunities (URO), a student-run and AMS constituted, club here at UBC. We will be launching a program this September called The Research EXperience (REX).

What is REX?

REX is a year long program designed to help undergraduate students build essential research skills via the designing of a prospective research project (no results, lab time, or lab resources required). The skills to be acquired by the prospective students including, but are not limited to:

  • Formulate research questions
  • Understand how-to and actually perform literature reviews
  • Synthesize an experimental design
  • Creating / designing & printing a research poster
  • Learning how-to present a research poster
  • Present a prospective research poster at the Undergraduate Research Conference at UBC

Upcoming Symposium on International Development – FREE

Impact is the difference between what would happen with action and what would happen without it. In the end, this is what matters; it is what affects communities, students and institutions like UBC. This symposium will unpack the notion of impact in international development and critically examine our pursuit of it.

  • An opening panel discussion hosted by Amnesty International, BCCIC, Capilano Global Stewardship Program and Oxfam
  • A feature presentation on the Sustainable Livelihoods Program by AUCC Students for Development

  • A closing Keynote presentation by Jacky Essombe: An African Inspiration

Held November 2nd 2013, The TEDx Terry Talks are an independently organized, student-led TED conference, with 8 student speakers from a range of backgrounds and interests coming together to give the talk of their lives.
