Academic Standing

Students must be in good academic standing to be eligible to continue in the program from term to term. Formal academic standing reviews are completed at the end of each academic session based on the grades earned between Winter Terms 1 and 2 for the Winter session and between Summer Terms 1 and 2 for the Summer session.

A failed academic session is defined by:

A course load of 9 credits or greater is taken and the student’s average in those courses is less than 50%; OR
A course load of 15 credits or greater is taken and the student fails three or more courses; OR
A course load of less than 15 credits is taken and the student fails two or more courses; OR
A course, required for completion of DAP, is failed for a second time.

In general, the academic standing of a student is determined when the student’s grades have become official for the completed academic session. If you are concerned about your academic progress, please arrange an advising appointment to discuss your performance.

Students who are required to withdraw from the program due to unsatisfactory academic standing are eligible to apply for re-admission after 1 year. Re-admission is not guaranteed but if given, academic conditions may be placed on a student at the discretion of the DAP office.

Planning for CPA?

CPA’s minimum grade requirements for PEP admission may differ from UBC DAP’s program completion requirements. While UBC DAP considers 50% a passing grade, CPA may require a higher grade for the course to be eligible for transfer credit.
