Learning Analytics and Data

Learning Analytics

At UBC Sauder, Learning Analytics plays an important role in all aspects of the teaching cycle including course planning, teaching, and assessment. Learning analytics enables data-driven decisions to support your teaching practice.

What is Learning Analytics?

The Society for Learning Analytics Research (SoLAR) defines learning analytics as:

“the measurement, collection, analysis and reporting of data about learners and their contexts, for purposes of understanding and optimizing learning and the environments in which it occurs”

Canvas & Learning Data

Canvas has several tools available to access insights about student activity, including New Analytics, the ability to export your gradebook, and review quiz details (in Classic Quizzes). The Learning Services team has also developed some experimental tools that support the transformation or visualization of some Canvas data sources.
