I am a first year PhD student in the School and Applied Child Psychology program. My career goal is to work in a multidisciplinary team in either the public or private space! I really like collaborating with other professionals to approach situations from different angles. I would also like to have social justice focused aspect to my work. I was born in White Rock, BC, but my family originated from Zhongshan in the Guangdong province of China. I did my undergrad in psychology at UBC. I actually had a psych-ed done twice when I was a kid and was very intrigued by the process. I was luckily enough to meet the psychologist again when I was in high school, and they got to tell me all about their job. This made me really interested in the field! I love the student community in our program!! Everyone is so supportive and really looks out for each other. My hidden talent is that I am able to identify songs in the first second (I love heardle)! My advice I would give to a new grad student would be to make sure you carve out time for yourself! Grad school can be overwhelming, grounding yourself with hobbies or whatever relaxes you is a must.
