Translation Answers, Tips, and Yesterday’s lesson on the Personal A

We didn’t have enough time yesterday to go through the entire translation practice so I’m posting the answers up here on the blog.  Here you go:

Although I am prevented from sending you the dictado answers, and those of you who missed class on Wednesday won’t have the chance to see them before the exam, I’m including the “avoiding errors” tip sheet from the powerpoints yesterday.  Here it is.  I’ve also added a few more.

As indicated in the schedule, Examen I will be held the last hour this week.  It will cover up to and including Lección 3.

 

students can expect to:

 

1. Conjugate verbs in the present tense.  This includes filling in the blanks with verbs provided or expected within given contexts.  For examples:

 

Juan (necesitar) _______________ un reloj.   Or,

Juan (to need) ________________ un reloj.  Or,

Juan ___________________ un reloj.

 

2. Use adjectives in Spanish with proper gender and number agreement and proper position.  This is also provided in fill in the blanks form with specified adjectives given in English.

 

Olga y Ester son ___________ amigas.  Son unas ________ chicas ________ .  (my, nice)    [In this case students would have to provide the possessive “mis” and the correct form “simpáticas” in the correct position (after the noun), hence leaving blank the space before the noun.]

 

3. Answer questions similar to those in the previous Dictado and along the lines of Para conocernos mejor@ sections in the text; AND/OR write 2 or 3 short paragraphs or dialogues on given topics.   The paragraphs or dialogues (about 25-30 words each) would be based on topics extracted from the lessons and from exercises like those found in the AQue dice Ud.@ sections at the end of each chapter.

 

4. Translate into in Spanish. This section is text-specific and comprises the translation into Spanish of short situations or paragraphs similar to those we practice in class [with Practica de Traduccion].  This section is all inclusive: grammar, vocabulary, expressions, time, numbers, etc., and will account for about 35% of the exam

Hola a todos.

My notebook was attacked by a nasty virus on the weekend and I have had to take it in to get it repaired.  For this reason I haven’t had any access to the internet in order to answer e-mails or post the Quia assignment for this week.  I have borrowed a laptop from Arts to use for this class.  Here are today’s lessons, please forgive their lateness.
