U. of California Chief Would Gain More Control Over Executive Salaries in Plan That Clears Regents Panel

The Chronicle: U. of California Chief Would Gain More Control Over Executive Salaries in Plan That Clears Regents Panel

A committee of the University of California’s Board of Regents approved on Wednesday a new salary structure for the system’s top-paid administrators that would give the system’s president more control in awarding raises.

A voice vote of the Special Committee on Compensation approved the plan without dissent at the regents’ meeting, in San Diego. The structure and where positions are placed under it are to be discussed today by the entire board.

The plan would place positions with salaries of more than $168,000 per year into a series of 16 salary ranges, and the University of California’s president, Robert C. Dynes, and his staff would be able to increase salaries within each range, with the oversight of the regents.
