Mirror.co.uk: Teachers threaten strike action over Blair’s plans for school reform

The Prime Minister wants schools to become independent from town hall control, employing their own staff and managing their own affairs.

But General Secretary of the National Union of Teachers Steve Sinn said: “There will be resistance.

“If trusts operate outside nationally determined pay and conditions we could have industrial action.”

Mr Blair is already facing massive backbench resistance over his Education Bill.

Meanwhile university lecturers and researchers yesterday also threatened industrial action in a dispute over pay.

It could leave students with exams and course-work unmarked.
