Vancouver Sun: SFU approves deal to establish private international college
BURNABY – Simon Fraser University has approved a deal with an Australian company to establish a private preparatory college for international students adjacent to its Burnaby campus.
Nello Angerilli, the students and international acting associate vice-president, said the deal with IBT Education Ltd., approved by the SFU senate Monday night, will help the university attract more international students who he said are currently under-represented on campus.
The vote was postponed in February after students and faculty members complained they hadn’t been given enough time to consider the details.
The new facility, Fraser International College, will open in September with about 120 students. It’s expected to expand to 1,000 students within five years and eventually to 2,000 students.
