980 CJME Regina: University Workers Vote to Strike
U of R students may have trouble signing up for fall classes.
Administrative, professional, and technical staff voted 88% in favour of strike action Monday, according to Faculty Association Executive Director Patricia Fleming. She says even after mediation, they still couldn’t get an acceptable deal from the university.
The deal-breaker was what Fleming’s calls the schools attempt to impose a new job classification system. Not only did they not like the looks of it, the faculty also wasn’t impressed that they weren’t consulted about it.
Fleming says if the school doesn’t retract that final offer soon, the Faculty Association’s membership will set a date for job action to begin.
Negotiations have been ongoing since May of 2005.
