The Chronicle: Britain’s 2 Largest Higher-Education Unions Agree to Merge

Members of Britain’s two main unions representing higher-education employees voted last week to merge. The amalgamation of the Association of University Teachers and the National Association of Teachers in Further and Higher Education will form one of the world’s largest unions for postsecondary-educational professionals.

The new union will represent more than 116,000 members in all British universities and institutions of higher and further education, and will have considerable bargaining power during labor negotiations.
