DETROIT (AP) — When it comes to health benefits, the news has been largely glum for workers approaching retirement. In the Motor City and across the nation, companies grappling with ballooning health care costs have been shifting more of the burden to retirees.

But one Detroit employer is considering bucking the trend. Wayne State University has formed a joint committee with the faculty union to study the feasibility of adding university-subsidized health insurance for retirees. Administrators say offering such a benefit would help Wayne State attract and retain talent.
