The Period 7 exam schedule is now posted here.

Please note, if your module’s final evaluation is not listed please consult with your instructor. Also, the due dates and times for some final evaluations are subject to change depending on the instructor.

As per the Examination Policy:

• All exams, whether FT or PT, must be sat at the time stated in the exam schedule.
• Exams may not be re-arranged to accommodate students’ travel plans, irrespective of the reason for traveling.
• Extensions may only be granted by the Graduate Programs Office for medical reasons.
• Students must notify the Graduate Programs Office (askmba@sauder.ubc.ca) prior to the start of the exam if they are too ill to write.  A doctor’s note must be provided prior to the scheduling of a new exam date.

Any student with Examination Hardship defined as THREE or more exams within a 24-hour period should report this to the Graduate Programs Office (askmba@sauder.ubc.ca) by no later than Monday, November 24th 2014.

Failure to notify the Graduate Programs Office of 3 exams within 24 hours by the deadline given may result in students not being able to have an alternate exam sitting.

Hello Class of 2015 Friends!

We take this opportunity to thank those of you who have already purchased tickets for the Net Impact UBC Graduate Chapter Conference on Friday and to provide one final reminder to those of you who have not yet done so.

Five of your classmates – Jason Dorn, Oana Dan, Jacek Mis, Omid Toub, and Jose Toussaint have put enormous effort into planning a conference for each and every one of you.

Late last November, a small group of students met to discuss ideas for this conference, and settled on a theme that we thought would benefit and enhance everyone’s understanding of an important business sector here in Vancouver and across Canada – social enterprise. Approaching the topic of “Sustainability” in business seemed too vague for our objective, and we determined that we needed to focus our efforts. What we came up with was the idea of looking into how some businesses use money from lending institutions, charitable donations, grants, and venture capital to achieve social good. We wanted to see how this works across various types of businesses and sources of funding, and find speakers to share this story with all of you.

Almost one year later, we bring you the 2014 UBC Net Impact Conference, featuring speakers from: VanCity Credit Union, Renewal Funds, ReCap Health Ventures, MaRS Impact Investing, ISIS, Ecotrust Canada, the Business Development Bank of Canada, and a handful of local entrepreneurs…

If you have not taken a look at our Conference Agenda, please do so now and consider what this day has to offer you. BCC Highly Recommended Activity – Negotiation Mania
Friday, Nov 14, 8:30-5:00pm (Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel)
As you move forward towards your MBA career, knowing how to close on a job opportunity and effectively and appropriately negotiate the compensation package are key skills. 54% of the 2014 class reported negotiating with 75% reporting success and an average salary increase of 9% and median of 7%.

• AM Session: Barry Howard, Senior Career Consultant from TOOMBS Inc., will speak to the ins and outs of effective salary negotiation, including role play time.
• Lunch will be provided
• Afternoon: We will be joined by volunteers from the business community – recruiters from recruiting agencies, hiring managers and HR directors. You will be assigned a time slot and have the opportunity to practice two different types of scenarios (pitch and negotiation) with our volunteers.

Capstone is the second component of BA 508 (2 credits) in conjunction with Business in Society. Attendance and full participation is required every day. Teams will be announced in advance and you are expected to reserve the entire day of Dec 8th, 9th and 10th for Capstone.

*On December 9th, students will be expected to work in their teams until late in the evening on a business challenge which you will present on the following day on December 10th.

Please be advised that you will have until Monday November 3rd at 8am to drop a class without a “W” on your academic record. Students may withdraw from any modules in the FT MBA Program in which they are registered at any time during the first week (i.e. within 4 hours of teaching for a 1.5 credit module (20% of class hours).

• identify the project on which you want to work
• brief rationale for why you would make a good fit for the particular project
• your average marks so far in the program
