“Lil’ Cow” loves milk too.

UBC’s new sustainability campaign, Ripple Effect, recently brought the BC Dairy Mobile Classroom to campus for a cow meet-n-greet. Representatives from the Centre for Organizational Excellence were on hand to meet “Pearl” and “Lil’ Cow”.

Did you know the following facts about cows?

  • On average a dairy cow weighs between 600-750 kg.
  • Cows actually don’t sweat!
  • Cows drink about a bathtub full of water and eat about 50 kilograms of food (or 1675 servings of cereal) a day.
  • Cows spend about 10 hours a day eating, 8 hours a day lying down and 6 hours a day on their feet, being milked, walking around their stalls and socializing with their herd mates.
  • Brown cows do not make chocolate milk.
