Meet Chelsea

What did you study? I did my BA in Cultural Anthropology and Women’s and Gender Studies at UBC. I’m interested in topics such as diversity, inclusion and privilege which is what led me down this path.

What specifically about being an ESP are you enjoying/looking forward to? I’m looking forward to the constant student-facing nature of the role. While I just recently received my cohort of students, I’ve been really enjoying providing support to students and linking them to resources on campus.

What secret talents do you have? My friends like to joke that I’m the “lyrebird” of the dance floor (The video is complete with David Attenborough narration so it’s worth a watch). While the lyrebird can mimic sounds around it (such a chainsaws and camera shutters) apparently I do some half decent impressions of my friends’ (hilarious) dance moves.

What organizations are you involved with outside of work? Outside of work I volunteer a good deal of time to an organization called eatART. We build large scale, mechanical and kinetic sculptures that analyze our relationship with energy. My position there is as Officer of Events. I plan and execute several fundraisers every year that cover the cost of renting our lab space.

Where do you want to travel next? Next summer I hope to do a whirlwind cross-Canada road trip. While I’ve traveled a fair bit, I’ve done hardly any travelling in Canada and can’t wait to adventure through it!
