It was that time of year again! Campus had turned frosty, the ugly Christmas sweaters had resurfaced from the closets and gingerbread houses lined the tables looking picture perfect. The annual ES Holiday Party had returned to Brock Hall!
This year, bringing a little sun to an otherwise dark December evening, ES colleagues were welcomed into a tropical themed paradise! Palm trees replaced Christmas trees, tables sported grass skirts and the School of Music’s J Trio provided an arrangement of festive favorites with a tropical twist. In proper luau fashion, we were treated not only to a huge feast and wonderful tropical punch, but a real spit roast – head and all! Special thanks to Allison See (Director of Student Financial Services) for donating the pig!
Keeping up with tradition, ES colleagues took to the stage for the annual Ugly Christmas Sweater competition. Kudos to all contenders for a record high level of festive tack, and to our chosen winner, Monika Malcynzki!
Then came the most anticipated part of the night: the 2nd Annual Gingerbread House decorating competition. For days, teams had been huddled away in their offices crafting their edible masterpieces, and after last year’s triumph from the Senate team, whispers on design ideas and strategies spread round Brock Hall! The competition this year was fierce, unique designs including a bright red Snoopy Dog house and a lovely model size replica of Brock Hall. However it was another victory for the Senate and Curriculum Services team, whose log cabin, complete with hot tub, fire pit and edible stone chimney brickwork, took the win again for the 2015 title, chosen by our trio of musicians (extra kudos to Head Gingerbread Designer Meghan Phillips!)
A special thanks to everyone who made a donation towards our ES Charity of Choice, raising over $220 for the Immigrant Services Society of BC, who provide settlement, education and employment services to support immigrants and refugees in Canada.
