Generally, GIF files are used for logos, line drawings, and icons. It is one of the most popular image formats on the internet particularly since images upload quickly even through the slowest modems.

Within ‘Latest News’ on my MOODLE site, I provided icons that linked students to free software programs. Depending on the student’s computer software capabilities, they may have to download these programs. The ICONS provided were free; however there were certain specific restrictions imposed. A synopsis of the Adobe’s Terms of Use is presented,

(Please note: Though the Terms of Use are for Adobe, each icon had similar expectations.)

1. You may only display the web logo on your website, and not in any other manner.

2. It must always be an active link to the Adobe Reader product page or the Adobe Reader download page on Adobe’s official website or an Adobe authorized Adobe Reader software download page on a company intranet or local network.

3. The web logo must appear by itself, with a minimum spacing (the height of the web logo) between each side of the web logo and other graphic or textual elements on your web page.

4. You may not alter the web logo in any manner, including size, proportions, colors, elements, etc., or animate, morph, or otherwise distort its perspective or appearance.

5. Your use may not be obscene or pornographic, and may not be disparaging, defamatory, or libelous to Adobe, any of its products, or any other person or entity. You may not link to Adobe.com from a website that is obscene or pornographic, or disparaging, defamatory, or libelous to Adobe or any of its products.

6. Your use may not directly or indirectly imply Adobe’s sponsorship, affiliation, or endorsement of your product or service.

7. Your use may not infringe any Adobe intellectual property or other rights, may not violate any state or federal laws, and must comply with international IP laws.

8. You may not create a frame or border environment around Adobe content.

9. You may link to, but may not replicate, Adobe content.
You may not present false or misleading information about Adobe products or services.

10. Your reference to Adobe, its products, and its website must comply with the general trademark guidelines.

11. While you may use the web logo as provided by these guidelines, you may not use the Adobe corporate logo or any other Adobe logo or graphic to link to Adobe.com.

12. These guidelines do not grant permission to use any other Adobe logos or trademarks. Adobe reserves the right in its sole discretion to terminate or modify your permission to display the web logo at any time.

 II. MULTIMEDIA

Purpose: Several of the multi-media applications on Moodle are produced using Flash. To view them in your web browser students will need to download the Flash Player software.

III. Windows Media Player

Purpose: It is a digital media player used for playing audio and videos.

IV. MS OFFICE

You don’t have to have the buy MS Office -there are alternatives. The best Office-style software is called OpenOffice and it is free to download! Students can then view any Microsoft Word Documents.
