Please let your students know that we have new Internships available for Summer 2018 through the Centre for Sustainable Food Systems at UBC Farm. Our hugely successful internship program is available to all UBC students and there are no pre-requisites. These are unpaid, for-credit internships.

IFSA UBC Writing Challenge: Future of Our Forests – Deadline February 14

Have you always wanted to share your research on forests with a wide audience, but haven’t gotten the right opportunity to spread the word? Well, you are in luck!

 

This writing challenge is an open call for all students to share about problems and/or solutions related to the world’s forests. Each entry must be approximately 700-1000 words long. The top THREE submissions will each receive a $150 GIFT CARD to the UBC BOOKSTORE, will be published in the IFSA Tree News and will also be invited to attend a public appreciation event co-hosted by IFSA UBC and the GLOBAL LOUNGE!

  • You can write about your research or your personal/professional experience related to forests
  • You can even write about a topic related to forests and sustainability that you feel is important and you would like to explore.   
  • The write-up should be compelling and easily understandable to a lay audience.
  • Be creative, engage the reader with a good story.
  • Don’t hesitate to include infographics, pictures, tables, charts.

Place-Based Food Systems 2018: Making the Case, Making It Happen
Metro Vancouver, August 9-10th, 2018

This two-day conference will draw together academics and community leaders to share the latest research and actions on building capacity for and empowering, place – based food systems. Participants will leave fortified with knowledge and understanding of the latest and best work making the case for place-based food systems, as well as innovative practices putting place-based food systems to into action. The event aims to give participants an empowering vision of the critical role that place-based food systems can and will play in achieving our sustainable economic, ecological, and societal futures, as well as a revitalized dedication to strategic, collaborative, and forceful strategies moving forward. Registration is open for this year’s Think Global, Link Local 2018 Networking Breakfast, hosted by the United Nations Association of Canada-Vancouver! This is an event for students and recent graduates to meet and learn from professionals in local charities, non-profit and civil society organizations.
