Hi everyone,

I’m sharing the attached opportunities for students or youth (aged 15-30) from Oct. to Dec. 2021 and Jan. to Mar. 2022 funded in part by Project Learning Tree and Canada’s Green Jobs program for youth.

These contracts will contribute to the work of the Canadian Parks Collective for Innovation and Leadership (CPCIL.ca), specifically with a) participatory research on equity, diversity, and inclusion related to parks and protected areas science, research, and management in Canada, and b) resource curation for a community of park practitioners, community partners, researchers, and students through knowledge mobilization, online content, and support for leadership programs.

I would be grateful if you would distribute the opportunity among your students or recent graduates. The timeline is short so we can get projects started, but we can accept applicants until the positions are filled. And we have flexibility on the smaller contracts to make them equivalent to 10 hours per week so the workload is manageable for a student.

LFS faculty, staff and graduate students are welcome to join LFS Scholar Series events, where experts in their field present the broad impacts of their research and engage in audience discussion. This October speaker event is organized by Andrea Frommel from the Applied Animal Biology research program and the Graduate Program Office. 

Invited Speaker: Bob Chamberlin, Kwikwasutinuxw Haxwa’mis First Nation & advocate for wild salmon

Title: Fish Farm Impacts – Too Complicated for Fulsome Media Reporting  

Biography:  Bob Chamberlin served as an elected chief Councillor for the Kwikwasutinuxw Haxwa’mis First Nation for 14 years, and a Vice President of the Union of BC Indian Chiefs for 9 years. A well-known wild salmon advocate, he has participated in various federal & provincial initiatives examining the full spectrum of issues related to open net cage fish farms.  Bob served as a key negotiator for the Broughtan Fish Farm LoU where the UNDRIP was successfully implemented for the first time in Canada’s history and participated as negotiator for 3 First Nations at the recent Discovery Island Fish Farm Consultations.

Hello Students!

We are Rural eMentoring BC and we are looking for student volunteers to be mentors for our online mentoring program. ReMBC connects rural high school students to post-secondary students around BC. No experience required!

Time commitment:

All communication is through our online platform.

• Asynchronous messaging: so you can send messages whenever you want—as long as you respond to your mentee within 3 days.
• Flexible timing: Logon 2-3 times per week at your convenience—it’s usually about a 1-3 hour commitment per week.

What you’ll do:

• Answer questions and give advice about life after high school.
• Help your mentee work through a flexible online curriculum of videos, articles, and discussion that covers topics like well-being, post-secondary and careers.
