As you know, the UBC Sustainability Scholars program offers graduate students paid opportunities to work with community partners on sustainability related projects over the summer. Students interested in sustainability or in applying to the program may be interested in attending the conference.  Students from your program may even be presenting!

The conference takes place Thursday September 29 from 1 to 5 pm, registration is required. More details are below.

What happens when you give bright and engaged students real-world sustainability problems to solve?

UBC’s Sustainability Scholars are helping to make real change in the world. Join us on September 29 to learn more about what our local governments and institutions are doing to future-proof our people, our cities, our urban spaces, and the Fraser Estuary.

You will enjoy an afternoon of engaged discussion on a diverse range of applied sustainability projects produced by UBC graduate students in collaboration with community partners including the City of Vancouver, Metro Vancouver, BC Hydro, Translink, and many other local governments, local health authorities, and NGOs.

Scholars will present their projects in concurrent themed panel sessions throughout the afternoon. Panels will be moderated by experts from UBC and Sustainability Scholars Program partners.

I did want to send out an invitation to Joy of Feeding on October 2 – it’s back after a 5-year hiatus!

About Joy of Feeding:

Join 12 local chefs (including two chef teams) from some of Vancouver’s most beloved restaurants, as they prepare their favorite family recipes in the fields of Vancouver’s local organic farm, the UBC Farm.

Featuring locally sourced produce, Joy of Feeding is an outdoor food festival and fundraiser for Chefs’ Table Society of British Columbia’s future Culinary Centre and the food literacy programs at the Centre for Sustainable Food Systems at UBC Farm.

As mentioned in GradUpdate yesterday, Dr. Ainsley Rouse and Greg Martyn will be presenting ‘The Ins and Outs of Academic and Scholarly Integrity at UBC’ tomorrow (Wednesday, Sept 14, 12 – 1:30 pm) as part of our online GradStart programming.

Although targeted to incoming graduate students, this workshop is relevant to current graduate students wishing to learn more about the resources available at UBC to help support studying and researching with integrity.

Sept. 23 – RSVP for LFS Welcome back event

The Faculty is once again hosting a Welcome back event to kick off the new school year together! LFS faculty, staff and graduate students are invited to attend. The popular food trucks will make a return this year, so bring your appetites!

We encourage you to also bring a picnic blanket as the event takes place at UBC Farm – and it will go forward, rain or shine!
