Registration is now open to UBC graduate students for Designing for Transformation – a free, non-credit course for learning and applying approaches from social innovation, systemic design and regenerative development, using equity-centered and decolonizing methodologies. The course is led by interdisciplinary practitioners Lindsay Cole, Lerato Chondoma and Jennifer Cutbill (with feature guests to be announced during the course).

The challenges we face demand more than incremental change, they require transformation. This in turn requires transforming our ways of knowing, being and doing, and our roles and responsibilities in relation. This offering provides opportunities to un/learn and apply emergent and resurgent practices with peers across disciplines, working on an enriching diversity of complex challenges; all supported by practitioners working across sectors, disciplines and knowledge systems.

Together, we will co-create an inter/transdisciplinary learning environment centering abundance, joy, courage, and compassion to work transformatively on complex, applied challenges that really matter.

Format: two modules; a total of eight synchronous, online sessions. Option for peer groups to meet in person (we may also meet in person for the closing session of Module 2 – but TBC together).

FISHGLOB Consortium – April 6, 2023. 2:00-3:00 pm Fish biodiversity facing global change Global change, linked to climate and direct anthropogenic impacts, is causing redistribution of marine species worldwide, modifying fish population and stock structure, as well as community compositions. These changes may have strong impacts on fisheries and natural fish biodiversity as well as related ecosystem services. However, our capacity to assess and monitor short and long-term changes in species distribution and biodiversity is hampered by data availability and heterogeneity. This event will present activities of the FISHGLOB consortium which has collected and combined a unique data set of scientific bottom trawl surveys conducted regularly during the last decades across the globe. Topics will cover species assemblages’ homogenization/differentiation through time, consequences on fish stocks shared across countries, and fishery management. Finally, FISHGLOB aims to provide a platform enhancing international cooperation and knowledge transfer among data providers, scientists and stakeholders in order to support biodiversity and fishery management adaptation in a time of global change.
